This year looks to be the busiest yet for After the Finish Line. We are planning fundraisers, partnerships and awareness campaigns in Southern California and Virginia to benefit the Thoroughbred ex-racehorses. We are grateful to those who are reaching out to help ATFL. Your donations provide a voice for the ex-racers by helping to ensure their welfare off  the racetrack.

**NEW DATE** After the Finish Line’s 2011 Comedy Fundraiser, “Stand Up For Horses”, will be on St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the IMPROV Hollywood. Our silent auction is from 6:30 – 8:00 pm and Showtime is from 8:00 – 9:30 pm. Return our Invitation with your payment or use PayPal. If you can’t attend, please consider making a donation. You can also donate a silent auction item or volunteer. Come join the fun! Contact for more information.

After the Finish Line is also planning our summer fundraiser in Del Mar, CA during the Del Mar race meet. We look forward to seeing racehorse owners, trainers, racing fans, racetrack announcers, jockeys, owners of off the track Thoroughbreds and those who care about the welfare of the horses. Our fundraiser documents will be posted on our website in April. Please contact if you are interested in attending, being a sponsor or if you want to donate silent or live auction items.

ATFL will once again partner with the Thoroughbred Celebration Horse Shows in Virginia. We also established a new partnership with the Del Sol Classic Horse Shows in Del Mar, CA. These shows will be held at the Del Mar Horse Park on April 2-3, August 17-18 and October 1-2. Both horse shows promote off the track Thoroughbreds in a second career as Hunters and Jumpers. We look forward to seeing you at the shows!

Rescue organizations across the United States request and submit applications to After the Finish Line for monthly emergency funds and yearly grants. This month, ATFL will start a new funding program that reverses the process. Under this program, ATFL will contact rescue organizations to offer funding to meet the needs of their Thoroughbred ex-racehorses.

This month After the Finish Line contacted Tierra Madre Horse Sanctuary in Arizona to offer funding for their 9 Thoroughbred ex-racehorses. Their racing careers ended because of injuries. One horse raced 122 times before retiring. ATFL will pay for their upcoming farrier expenses.

Monthly emergency funds will be awarded to the Finger Lakes SPCA in New York. In September 2008 they took in 52 Thoroughbreds seized at a local farm. This was a long-term financial commitment and most of the horses have been adopted. ATFL will provide funding assistance for the hay expense of their remaining 14 Thoroughbreds.

Serenity Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation in Washington rescued He’s Peakin’ from a local auction in January. He suffered a double sesamoid fracture to his leg in November in a starting gate accident. Surgery is no longer an option. He’s Peakin’s rehab can take up to a year. ATFL will provide sponsorship funds and pay for his farrier, x-rays and veterinary care.

The horse pictures in our newsletters show how your donations help save and transition the Thoroughbreds off the track and into a second career. Rescue organizations in need of funding for their ex-racehorses or broodmares can contact
