December 2016

Dear Friends of After the Finish Line,

Happy Holidays!

In the spirit of this season of giving, After the Finish Line will once again surprise 20 deserving aftercare organizations with HOLIDAY HORSE grants. We award these grants in December to organizations throughout the United States in recognition of their year-long dedication to helping Thoroughbreds.

This year After the Finish Line awarded grants to 65 aftercare organizations in 21 states helping approximately 230 horses. ATFL is an all-volunteer 501 (c) (3) non-profit that provides hope and second chances for Off Track Thoroughbreds. For the past nine years, ATFL has awarded monthly financial support to organizations that save, rehabilitate, re-train and re-home horses. Your support makes it possible for our beloved Thoroughbreds to transition into a second career or retire in loving homes.

You can participate in After the Finish Line's season of giving and better the lives of horses. Or, you can include After the Finish Line as a recipient of your year-end charitable giving. Donate on-line or by mail at the address below.

::: How to apply for Monthly Emergency Funds :::

After the Finish Line has awarded Monthly Emergency Grants since 2007 to support Off Track Thoroughbreds, Thoroughbreds in training but never raced, Thoroughbred foals and Thoroughbred broodmares and stallions used for breeding. ATFL provides funding to organizations whose mission is to save, rehabilitate, re-train and re-home the horses for a second career or retirement. Please contact dawn@afterthefinishline.org to request our Guidelines.

::: Fundraisers :::

In 2016 After the Finish Line hosted Halter auctions, our annual fundraiser at the Del Mar Race Track on Pacific Classic Day, a fundraiser party in Del Mar after the Pacific Classic, fundraiser screenings of the much anticipated documentary Harry & Snowman, and our first charity auction of Breeders’ Cup hats. In 2017 we will host many of these events and add some new fundraisers.

Please contact us if there is a halter you are interested in. Also, please consider donating a Breeders’ Cup hat if your horse raced in this years or has raced in prior years Breeders’ Cup races. Please contact dawn@afterthefinishline.org.

Many of After the Finish Line’s fundraisers are planned well in advance while others just pop up throughout the year. Please contact us if you have a fundraiser idea, if you want to be on our planning committee or if you want ATFL to be the benefitting charity of an event.

::: After the Finish Line Caps :::

Support After the Finish Line by purchasing our hats. Our custom designed canvas hats have an adjustable metal clasp. The available colors are green and pink. ATFL caps feature our colorful racing logo, website address and service mark, “A 501(c) 3 funding non-profit for rescued Thoroughbred ex-racehorses.” All proceeds benefit the rescue, rehabilitation, re-training and re-homing of Off Track Thoroughbreds. Visit the ATFL Store on our website.

We thank you all for your support of our efforts to help the Off Track Thoroughbreds in 2016. The Georgia B. Ridder Foundation’s generosity has helped the California bred and raced Thoroughbreds. Your attendance at our fundraisers, your monetary and in-kind donations, and your likes, shares and tweets on social media have helped us raise much needed funds and awareness. We look forward to your support in 2017.

Sincerely,

dawn mellen
