ATFL News

December 2015

Dear Friends of After the Finish Line,

Happy Holidays! In the spirit of this season of giving, After the Finish Line will surprise one deserving charity every day from December 1 – December 25 with a “Holiday Horses” donation to better the lives of their Off Track Thoroughbreds. The funds come from our Georgia B. Ridder Foundation grant and the money raised from the Moneigh sales.

Please include After the Finish Line in your year-end Holiday charitable giving.  This year we awarded funding to 60 rescue organizations. ATFL is an all-volunteer 501 (c) 3 non-profit providing hope and second chances for Off Track Thoroughbreds. For the past nine years, ATFL has provided monthly financial support to rescue organizations that save, rehabilitate and re-train the horses. You will make it possible for our beloved Thoroughbreds to transition into a second career or retire in a loving home. Tax deductible donations can be mailed to the address below or through our website. Thank you for helping the horses.

::: Social Media :::

Social media plays an important role in reaching the Off Track Thoroughbred community. Over 11,000 of you have responded by joining and sharing our Facebook page. Help us grow our Twitter page by following @AfterFinishLine. We Tweet information you won’t always read on our Facebook page. Join us in support of the horses.

::: Fundraisers :::

Moneighs

After the Finish Line was grateful for the opportunity to create Moneigh paintings with American Pharoah to raise money for our charity and ReRun. Our recent Holiday Moneigh Fundraiser included original paintings of the stallions and broodmares at the Kentucky breeding farms. Moneigh prints of many of your favorite horses are always available on eBay. Thank you to the Daily Racing Form for their promotion.

One Last Race

After the Finish Line is one of the participating charities of the “One Last Race”, a 5K running race and road to retirement fun walk to benefit Off Track Thoroughbreds. We believe a Thoroughbred racehorse should not have to run one last race when they are ready to retire from racing. Put your sneakers on to run the last race for them and raise money to help horses transition off the racetrack and into a second career or retirement.

Join us on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Dupage County Forest Preserve in Wheaton, Illinois outside of Chicago. Racers will run on a .5 mile historic racetrack and through the trails of the Preserve. This property is the former estate of Daniel and Ada Rice, who bred champion Thoroughbreds. The Rice’s won the 1965 Kentucky Derby with Lucky Debonair and jockey Willie Shoemaker. In 1966 their horse Advocator placed second in the Kentucky Derby.

::: How to apply for Monthly Emergency Funds :::

In January 2016, After the Finish Line will award  Monthly Emergency Funds to support Off Track Thoroughbreds, Thoroughbreds in training but never raced, Thoroughbred foals and Thoroughbred broodmares and stallions used for breeding. ATFL provides funding to organizations whose mission is to save, rehabilitate, re-train and adopt the horses for a second career or retirement. Please contact dawn@afterthefinishline.org to request our Guidelines.
