Rehab    Retrain    Rehome    Retire

“The greatest victory for a Thoroughbred is not winning a race,
but winning the race to live long past their days on the racetrack.”

After the Finish Line (ATFL) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that awards Monthly Grants to aftercare organizations across the United States. These organizations rehabilitate, retrain, rehome and/or retire Off Track Thoroughbreds. Our charity is also dedicated to the welfare of Thoroughbreds in training that never raced and Thoroughbred foals, broodmares, and stallions.

Aftercare organizations require funding to transition their horses into second careers or retirement due to injuries. These organizations can apply for our Monthly Grants for expected and unexpected expenses that include surgery, veterinarian, medication, supplements, farrier, dental, chiropractor, vaccines, hay, feed, training, boarding, transportation and/or auction rescue. The talent of these horses goes far beyond the racetrack. Our grants help Thoroughbreds get adopted to loving homes and gives them the opportunity to transition into second careers as a hunter, jumper, dressage, eventer, western, trail, therapy and/or companion horse.

Since November 2007, After the Finish Line has awarded 775 grants helping more than 5,200 Thoroughbreds in thirty-two States, Canada and Puerto Rico. After the Finish Line gives hope and second chances to these deserving horses that have no other means of support. If you are an aftercare organization interested in applying for a grant, please review the Grant Guidelines on this website.

MISSION STATEMENT

To award Monthly Grants to aftercare organizations that rehabilitate, retrain, rehome and/or retire Thoroughbred horses after their racing and/or breeding careers have ended. To educate the public about the health, protection, and alternative career options for Off Track Thoroughbreds.

"Caring for racehorses once their track days are over is a vital part of the racing industry.
Public awareness has continually grown since the 1980's and nowadays no one can say they are unaware of the perils racehorses face if they are abandoned once their racing careers are over.
It can be a very rewarding experience to know that by simply getting involved, one has contributed to improving, or even saving, the life of one of our noble athletes.
It is a cause I wholeheartedly endorse."
